Heritage Hoops Update

The last couple of weeks have not been void of excitement around the American Heritage basketball program. We were able to continue our string of victories within our district, beating Coral Springs Charter and North Broward Prep. We held a 5 point lead in the 3rd quarter before losing to Boyd Anderson, and played a nationally televised game against Pace without 2 of our starters. We then bounced back with a victory over district foe Pompano Beach. All in all it has been a very busy 19 days, with tons of action and some stretches of decent basketball. The latest webisode of "The Perfect Rotation" details the Pace game, and you can find that on www.GoodBasketball.com. Our players are strong mentally and, as we enter the final quarter of our regular season, are committed to getting better every day.

American Christian (PA) 99, American Heritage 72

Our group played one of the top 5 teams in America last night at Boca High in front of 2000+ people and a great atmosphere.

American Christian is very, very good. We played well in the first half, taking a 28 - 26 lead with 2 + minutes to play in the first half, but we missed 2 front ends of 1 and 1 free throw situations, and overall missed 8 free throws in the first half. All this with our leading scorer, Kenny Boynton, slowed with an ankle injury that limited him all night long. We ended up going to half time with a 37 - 31 deficit. Halftime is usually a good time for our team. We traditionally come out strong after the 1o minute intermission, but last night was a different story. American Christian (which hit 17 3's for the game - SEVENTEEN!) started the quarter with a 10-0 run and 2 minutes later the score was 55-33. I even called 2 time outs to stop the run - and if you know me you know I rarely call time outs in the first 3 quarters. They hit shots, and forced our team into a few turnovers and a couple of bad shots.
Overall I come out of this game KNOWING that our team is better today than they were before this difficult part of our schedule. I know our players want to win at this level and will work very hard in practice in preparation for the playoffs, which are only 1 month away.

I was proud to be an American Heritage Patriot last night. We played a nationally ranked team in a huge game and were OK. It certainly is great to be part of this program right now.
